Smile

There are moments, days, weeks, and seasons
that sometimes seem harder than others.
As I was packing boxes today and struggling
with being frustrated how the whole process of moving
doesn’t seem to be working out well, this song popped up in my playlist.
It was a good reminder.
And sometimes… we need those.
And sometimes… we just need to smile. 🙂

I hope you smile today… and every day.

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you’ll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile..

Pardon Me, Is That Bone Broth in Your Wine Glass?

bonebroth

Why, yes. Yes, that is bone broth in my wine glass.
In fact, I’m sipping that glass of yummy goodness while I sit here posting about it.
It’s fresh, warm, and, oh, so aromatic with a rich, healing and delicious flavor.
It leaves an oily reminder on my mouth – a reminder that says,
Cheers! L’chaim! You did something good for you! Here’s to your health!
*sip* *lip smack* Ahhhhh

It’s a great treat after a rough day of trying to get into shape.
It was a cardio day. That’s a whole other story. oy vey. *sip*

Making my own bone broth has been on my list of things to do for quite some time now. And spending the past two days making it is just one more step I’ve taken to be a new me. No step is a small step.
And every step towards progress matters. *sip*

Did you know that our ancestors knew all about making meat broths and stocks?
And the value of them. And they are used almost all around the world in traditional cuisines. *sip*

Bone broth is extremely nutritious – full of minerals that are easy to assimilate – and the gelatin in meat broths acts as an aid to digestion and has been used successfully in the treatment of many intestinal disorders and other chronic disorders. It, also, allows the body to more fully utilize the complete proteins that are taken in. It has other important ingredients, too, like cartilage, which has been used in the treatment of cancer, and collagen, used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and more. *sip*

In folk wisdom, rich chicken broth is a valued remedy for the flu. And has been used to treat colds and asthma. It can provide continuous protection from many health problems… not to mention add immeasurably to the flavor of food. *sip*

More and more people (like me) are becoming aware of its benefits.
I even read about an establishment in a city (NYC, I think) that is serving it as a hot drink during the winter! Yay! What a great alternative for coffee in the morning! Nah, I wouldn’t go that far… yet. *sip*

It’s easy. It’s inexpensive. It’s delicious. It’s so so good for you. *sip*
Why wait? 🙂

BONE BROTH (Chicken)
1 whole chicken – ideally organic, free range, no hormones, etc…
(can, also, add gizzards and feet, if desired)
Enough filtered water to cover (or partially cover) the chicken in a crockpot
1/2 cup vinegar
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, sliced or minced

Put ingredients into crockpot. Cook 12-24 hours on low.
Remove the chicken and let cool, then remove the meat (save for meals!).
Take the whole pieces out of the pot with a slotted spoon, then strain the broth through a fine strainer or cheesecloth. Discard chunks, etc.., if desired. Bottle, jar, or bag your broth and keep it in the refrigerator (for several days) or freezer (several months).

“Good broth resurrects the dead.” – South American Proverb

Was the Sabbath Really Changed?

Ever REALLY looked into how, when, or IF the Sabbath was really changed?

There, actually, is not one Scripture verse in the Bible
that says anyone changed the Sabbath to Sunday.

Just because we have heard something all of our lives,
and just because our parents, and their parents,
and generations of forefathers before us did something…
doesn’t, necessarily, make it true and right.
Just because everyone else is doing it currently,
doesn’t make it true or right either.

When we put aside man’s doctrine,
the Scriptures really do speak for themselves.

We NEED to seek Truth.
We NEED to search the Scriptures diligently.
We NEED to study.

I hope you will be brave.
And SEEK TRUTH.
It’s a life long journey.
One I desire to remain on, too, with Father’s help.

Grab your Bible…
Consider this…

“We are told to be separate and holy.
We can keep the other nine (commandments) and still blend in.
Keeping the Sabbath means coming out and being separate to God.
That’s why God says the Sabbath is a sign between Him and His people. ”

Open our eyes, Oh YHVH, to Your Truth.

When Mama Left

I’ve wanted to write about this for almost 3 months now.
But I didn’t know what to say. And I still do not.
It’s hard to believe that much time has already passed…
and, yet, in some ways it seems the time span has been even greater.

It was during “Our Time of Joy” – The Feast of Tabernacles –
that our time of great sorrow came.

Mama, my sister, and I two months before

Mama, my sister, and I two months before

Mama – my dear, precious, beautiful mama – left this life on October 16th, 2014.
And though she had struggled for over 35 years with her health…
her passing was sudden.

Grief is a strange thing.
There is no time limit… and it is different for everyone.
It is bitter. And it is sweet.
It can be filled with laughter… and filled with tears.
We grieve the loss of the past, the present, and the future…
and, yet, we rejoice in the same.

Things we see, hear, smell, taste, and feel can so easily bring
a flood of conflicting thoughts and emotions.

Like when I was going through her room…

Her medication bottles in so many drawers and cabinets…
a painful reminder she is no longer here to take them –
yet rejoicing that she no longer needs them and is not suffering.

The salve I made her to help her with her Restless Leg Syndrome and Neuropathy – the smell invoked visions of all the nights I would rub it on her feet, legs, and back… and now her legs are no longer restless and her body no longer in pain… and no more struggle to sleep and rest.

My business card in her drawer… reminds me how she believed in me and always encouraged and listened to my hopes and dreams.

A drawer with loose Cornuts and Gobstoppers that had fallen out of their packaging… how awful I thought they smelled but how she loved them and would light up when someone gifted her with them.

Photos of our children when they were babies – and how she was there for all of their births. And what a proud and happy grandma she was.

… Because of her, I was brave enough to be a mother…
Because of her, I wanted to be one. Because of her, I love being one.

Mama and I ... when we took her & Daddy to the beach

Mama and I
… when we took her and Daddy to the beach

Many knew of Mama’s dimpled smile and quirky interests and style.
Many knew her for her kindness and saw so much of her loving character
but there was so much more that went deeper… that many didn’t see.
She was compassionate and she loved deeply and always thought of others.
Even when her health hindered her from doing so much
that she wanted to do for others, her heart was continually burdened for them,
and her thoughts and prayers were filled with others.
And it was especially evident in her roles as wife, mother, and daughter.

Through Mama’s living example, and not just through her words,
I learned that life wasn’t/isn’t about me.
I learned that the most beautiful and full life is one of love – selfless love -,
of forgiveness, smiles, tears, thankfulness, perseverance, laughter,
and blessing others through service.

Mama knew and lived that Love is not pursuing our own plans and interests –
but that it is the giving of self to bless another.
She had a heart that was willing and ready to ‘wash the feet of others’

She did not seek the praise of people, nor did she seek glory.

She didn’t even know how beautiful she was –
For her, certain kindnesses and acts of selfless love were what was normal.

Because of her, I love being a wife, I cherish being a mother,
I strive to be a daughter that gives honor to her parents,
and someone that cares for, feels deeply for, and goes out of her way for others.

I hope that I am, at least, half the wife that Mama was,
half the mother she was, half the daughter she was, half the person she was…

That I leave behind a legacy of genuine love –
“to not love in only word or in tongue, but in action and in truth.”

I hope to be beautiful… like Mama.

The world is a better place because she was in it.
And I will always, always give thanks and bless God for the blessing of her.

My mother and my dearest friend…
she will always be missed so dearly… every day.
But I am so thankful for the Trustworthy Hope that I have to see her again…
One Glorious Day.

Concerning Chanukkah

Chanukkah is, generally, a topic that various and contradictory information can be found. Even the word itself cannot be resolutely determined in its spelling (Chanukah, Hanukkah, Chanukkah, Hanuka, Channuka, etc…).

It is often questioned whether Chanukkah is found in Scripture.

Well… it is.
And it is quite interesting, in fact.

After discovering such… a while afterwards, and some time back, I came across the following videos that discussed this topic. They seem to do a ‘good’ job at presenting the information and are only about 15 minutes each.

I found it interesting to hear some of the points/passages shared in these videos…
and I always look forward to researching ideas, principles, and truths in Scripture (as we should with all things). So grab your Scriptures and sit for a spell… 🙂
They are worth watching… and sharing…

Shalom!

Sukkot – Feast of Tabernacles – Resources

The Feast of Tabernacles, Sukkot, is a time of rejoicing!
We rejoice in our redemption from Egypt {sin},
recognizing how we dwell in temporary dwellings now
but that one day we will dwell eternally with Him…
We rejoice in Messiah’s birth,
how He came and tabernacled {dwelt} among us…
and we rejoice that one day He will come
and tabernacle among us once again…
and we rejoice in the coming marriage supper of the Lamb…
and so much more He has done and what is to come!!

“Speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying,
‘On the fifteenth day of this seventh month
is the Festival of Booths for seven days to יהוה.”
Leviticus 23:34

“And you shall observe it as a festival to יהוה for seven days in the year
– a law forever in your generations. Observe it in the seventh month.
Dwell in booths for seven days; all who are native Yisra’ĕlites dwell in booths,
so that your generations know that I made the children of Yisra’ĕl dwell in booths
when I brought them out of the land of Mitsrayim {Egypt}. I am יהוה your Elohim.’ ”
Leviticus 23:41-43

Yom Kippur – Day of Atonement(s).
It is a solemn, yet joyous time.

“On the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement.
It shall be a set-apart gathering for you. And you shall afflict your beings,
and shall bring an offering made by fire to יהוה.

Beautiful song by Steve McConnell

A video of Scriptures and music that I put together a few years ago,
to reflect during this time… to a song entitled “Redeemer”.
HalleuYah for His Redemption!

Shema, Yisrael, YHVH, Eloheinu, YHVH Echad.
Baruch shem k’vod malchuot l’olam va’ed.

Hear, O Yisreal, YHVH our Elohim, YHVH is One.
Blessed be His esteemed Name
Whose Kingdom is forever and ever. Amein.

Season of Reflection and Repentance

oceanreflections

As we draw closer to the fall feasts (moedim – Appointed Times) of the Father,
we embrace a season of reflection and repentance…
a time to prepare the Bride to get ready to meet her Bridegroom and King.

I thought this a beautiful description…

“The season turns, and we welcome the new month of Elul.
Elul offers a loving vessel
In which to reflect on the year that has been
And prepare for what can be.
In Elul, God, the Mystery, appears as the Beloved
Calling us to return:
To return to our truths
To return to our dreams
To return to what we most love and value.

The heart cries, sensing its brokenness.
The soul yearns, seeking lost connections

And the One continually calls:
You are completely and absolutely loved.
Return to me.
You are completely and absolutely loved.

During this (season) may we imagine — may we know —
we are loved completely for who we are,
and may this love help inspire and direct
our reflection and action.”

May Abba bless His Bride with teshuvah.
